Published in 2020, during the lockdown brought about by the global pandemic, Indigenous-Canadian author, Monique Grey Smith, thanks Dr. Bonnie Henry, Doctor of Health for the province of British Columbia, “for holding us in your heart, and in your hands, with a daily reminder to “Be Kind. Be Calm. Be Safe.” This book is a response, and a reminder to us all!

Winner of the Canadian Children’s Book Council Notable Social Studies award.

Both the award winning author, Monique Grey Smith, of mixed Cree, Lakota and Sottish heritage, and illustrator, Nicole Neidhardt,whois Dine (Navajo), collaborated on WHEN WE ARE KIND to prompt a dialogue among our young children, and those who care for them, about kindness and the importance of the connections they have with friends, classmates and their families.
